For Immediate Release: October 27, 2000
Hosted by Victoria's Centre for Education Information and BC's "Banner Institutions", more than 300 university and college administrators and IT staff will attend the "Western Banner Users Conference", October 30-31 at the Victoria Conference Centre. Seventy institutes of higher education will be represented*, from Alaska and the Yukon, through to California's Silicon Valley and San Diego, from the University of Victoria, to McGill University in Montréal.
"Last year, the Centre for Education Information saved BC's education system over $1.5 million dollars by negotiating software discounts, including Oracle, Microsoft and Banner," said David Rees, the Centre for Education Information's CEO. "This conference will help administrators obtain more value from their Banner software."
"We will focus on sharing ideas and solutions to make post-secondary institutions more efficient," said David Rees. Topics include web applications, student support, fund-raising, and e-commerce, with focussed sessions on student services, technical issues, accounts receivable, human resources, alumni and finance. The company that produces Banner will also provide an update on the development of a more "intelligent" product that better leverages data relationships, creating more support for administrators, students, faculty and staff.
Western Banner Users Conference attendees will include Deans, Registrars, Managers, Programmer/Analysts, HR Advisors, Controllers, Accountants, IT Directors, and support staff.
The conference is expected to generate more than $170,000 in economic impact in Victoria.
The Centre for Education Information (CEISS) is an independent, not-for-profit agency partially funded by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Training and Technology. CEISS provides a wide range of information and data management services to British Columbia's education system.
